Meet Dr. Gonzalez at Acadia Women's Health and Cosmetic Surgery

A board-certified urogynecologist and cosmetic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, and one of the first doctors in Acadiana to perform liposuction, abdominoplasty, and breast augmentation completely under local anesthesia in the office. I’m Dr. John Gonzalez, a urogynecologist and cosmetic surgeon at Acadia Women’s Health in Crowley, Louisiana. I’m a licensed surgeon, board certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and I’ve spent more than 25 years caring for the women of Acadiana. Over that time I’ve performed thousands of surgeries, and I’ve completed the MIGS exam recognizing advanced expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic techniques, earned through both formal training and years of hands-on clinical work. When Dr. Michelle Owens and I opened our practice in 1999, what thrilled us most was the chance to walk with women through one of the most precious moments of their lives: childbirth. But after about seven years, we kept noticing the same quiet thing. Women who had given everything to their families weren’t happy with how they looked afterward, and they wanted to feel like themselves again. We decided we didn’t want our care to end when the baby arrived. We wanted to keep helping our patients long after.

3 Reasons to Have a Breast Reduction

Relief from Chronic Physical Discomfort

Relief from Chronic Physical Discomfort

The weight of excess breast tissue often leads to persistent pain in the neck, shoulders, and back. Bra straps may dig into the shoulders, causing irritation and discomfort. Additionally, large breasts can restrict physical activity, making exercise and other physical activities difficult.

Enhanced Body Proportions and Self-Esteem

Enhanced Body Proportions and Self-Esteem

For some women, having breasts that are disproportionately large can lead to feelings of self-consciousness and dissatisfaction with their appearance. It can be challenging to find well-fitting clothes and feel confident in various outfits.

Improved Overall Quality of Life

Improved Overall Quality of Life

The emotional and psychological impact of living with large breasts can be significant. Women may experience unwanted attention or struggle with a negative body image, which can affect their mental well-being. The physical weight and discomfort can also contribute to stress and anxiety.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Augmentation

Getting a breast reduction is a long-term solution for patients who are affected with excessively large breasts. In cases where there is significant weight gain, the results may be compromised, just like any cosmetic procedure that modifies body shape.
For women with larger breasts, the areola is also excessively large. You and your doctor can discuss your options during your consultation and determine if an areola reduction should be included as part of your breast reduction.
This varies depending on the doctor’s initial evaluation and the patient’s preference. Often, the reduction results in a cup size or two smaller than your original breast size.
Most women take 7 to 10 days off work for initial recovery. Full recovery, including resuming strenuous activities, typically takes about 6 weeks.
Scars are an inevitable part of surgery, but Dr. Gonzalez uses advanced techniques to minimize their appearance. Scars typically fade over time and are easily hidden by bras or swimsuits.
Yes, men with gynecomastia can benefit from male breast reduction surgery to achieve a flatter, more masculine chest.

Your Body. Your Confidence. Your Decision.

Your breasts play a big role in how you feel about your body. If you’re unhappy with their size or shape, it can affect your confidence and how you perceive yourself. A breast reduction or lift can help you achieve a breast size and shape that makes you feel more comfortable and self-assured.
