A board-certified urogynecologist and cosmetic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, and one of the first doctors in Acadiana to perform liposuction, abdominoplasty, and breast augmentation completely under local anesthesia in the office. I’m Dr. John Gonzalez, a urogynecologist and cosmetic surgeon at Acadia Women’s Health in Crowley, Louisiana. I’m a licensed surgeon, board certified through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and I’ve spent more than 25 years caring for the women of Acadiana. Over that time I’ve performed thousands of surgeries, and I’ve completed the MIGS exam recognizing advanced expertise in minimally invasive gynecologic techniques, earned through both formal training and years of hands-on clinical work. When Dr. Michelle Owens and I opened our practice in 1999, what thrilled us most was the chance to walk with women through one of the most precious moments of their lives: childbirth. But after about seven years, we kept noticing the same quiet thing. Women who had given everything to their families weren’t happy with how they looked afterward, and they wanted to feel like themselves again. Liposuction is a fat reduction procedure that can be performed on multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, back and upper arms. Tummy tuck focuses on sculpting the abdomen by removing fat and loose skin and repairing damaged muscles. If you have excess fat but good skin tone in your abdomen, liposuction alone may provide the desired body contouring results; however, if your abdominal skin is very loose and you have fat deposits in that area, tummy tuck is probably more appropriate.
You might. It is impossible to tell without a personal consultation and physical examination by Dr. Gonzalez or Dr. Owens. However, patients who have loose skin to begin with will usually be left with loose skin after liposuction. If this is a concern of yours, our plastic surgeons can recommend an alternative body contouring option.
Liposuction is not usually described as very painful, but rather as deeply sore and achy during recovery.
